Hello all, my name is Kat - sophomore at Mills College, writer, addicted to knitting, food lover, tea freak, weird country girl/city girl combination, musician, dancer, animal lover, and beginner vegetarian!
Where to start...? Well, my school, Mills, is a big part of who I am. It's a small, private, liberal arts women's college in Oakland CA, and I love it. I find myself lacking a satisfactory amount of friends of the menfolk variety at times, but that's the only thing I can complain about (that and the cost of tuition, but their financial aid department is awesome so I don't complain about tuition *too* often). I'm an art history and creative writing double major - in fact, I've a link to my slightly random and insane poetry/prose writings here on Vox. I haven't updated in a while, but sometimes I do, so check it out. I only appreciate constructive criticism. Don't be mean.
I did a study abroad in Italy over the summer, pretty much for the sole purpose of learning Italian. I was in Florence, which is a treasure trove of art history, so it wasn't *just* to learn Italian, I guess. I had such a wonderful time that while I'm taking a year's leave of absence from school (I'll be back at Mills January 2009), I plan to go back to Italy and teach English/hopefully participate in an art internship. I'm supposed to be there doing it right now, but some things came up and I have to wait a little while, so for now I'm back at home with my parents and sister in Montana, and I've spent a lot of time re-adjusting to small-town Montana - a pretty sharp contrast to the Bay Area :) I've kind of remembered that I love it here though - I live in the Flathead Valley, the most beautiful and vibrant part of this state, and though I miss things like Trader Joe's and frequent trips to Chinatown for dim sum, it's hard to beat the way the stars looks at night around here.
I don't use Vox for any specific reason other than getting my thoughts out of my head so that they make a little more sense.
I'm a also a musician (flute, voice, and minimal guitar) and an ex-dancer -- I used to devote my life mostly to ballet, along with a little modern, jazz, hip-hop, and tap on the side. I've taken ballet , samba, and salsa classes at school, and on weekends I go swing-dancing at a local restaurant with a group of friends, so I guess I'm not totally an ex-dancer, but at some point I realized that a dancer's life wasn't really what I wanted.
The people in my life, my family and friends, are everything to me. I would do anything for them and my life would be so empty without them. I'm someone who loves easily and doesn't even like to hear the word "hate" - though there are some people who drive me nuts.
What else... oh, yes. I just recently decided that I want to take a stab at a vegetarian lifestyle - something I tried to do years ago unsuccessfully - and I'm determined to do it right this time :)
Anything else, just ask me XD
